If the only measure of a registerable dog that can carry the name "border collie" is winning a sheep trial, how can any American ABCA dogs be called that? Not one has ever won an International trial.

Fact, that akc bordercollie may have done very well in our trials, but fact, it was 1 in a million. That dont happen often. Pure luck. This guy is clearly against the ABSA. We may need to lighten up a little, but never to the point and foolishness this guy wants. We will continue the perserve what the BorderCollie was, is, and is to be. A Border Collie. Trust.

Your observation is the best argument, no matter what the cause, breeders or the registry, or both, after recognition, breeds get ruined.

Blocking AKC dogs has worked for the ABCA, and it's a good policy. It's just the very rare instances where the ABCA is preventing dogs that can herd at a top level from remaining part of the breeding pool that I see as an annoyance. An annoyance, not a horrible issue.

I just wish that there could be a registry that had the interest in BCs that the ABCA does, dog sport focus, and no link with conformation.

My posts are more observations on why people have chosen to side with the AKC... people who really do care about the breed.

I will note that at the big dog show in Denver, the number of Aussies in conformation GREATLY outnumbered the Border Collies even though the Aussies are not quite as popular dogs over all.

Thanks for the comment. Last one before I'm getting on the plane.

:c)

The day the AKC open registration to Australian Shepherds was be commencement of the ruination of the working Aussie. I think ABCA should prohibit dual registration if they want to preserve the working border collie. It offends me that conformation neglects working capability to the degree that conformation is now driving evaluation of the manner in which the Aussie works.

Don't let it happen to the BC. You'll end up with loose-eyed, upright working dogs that have no intrinsic power.

I can't make a great argument for this, but I hate what has happened to the Australian Shepherd happen to the border collie.
