This amazing little dog would make a great mascot for an infantry unit who lives by the “Leave no man behind” code of ethics. On a busy highway in Chile, one dog is struck twice by cars and is lying unconscious in the road. Another dog heroically braves traffic to stand guard over his fallen comrade’s body, fends off another car, and drags him out of harm’s way to the shoulder before a work crew arrives.

While I haven’t read a written source confirming the outcome, ABC reported that both dogs survived the incident. Animals are so much more capable of emotion and compassion than we give them credit for. If given the opportunity, would you save a life? Even if it meant risking death yourself? That’s not really a question you can answer until it happens, but one little dog in Chile sure answered the call.
